It’s Hygge Time

Look out the window. Is it a bit cloudy, gray and chilly? This kind of weather might be a bummer to some, but to others, it’s perfect hygge (pronounced hoo-ga) weather!

So what’s hygge? Hygge is a concept that originated in Denmark and made it’s way over to the United States a few years ago when the book The Little Book of Hygge: Danish Secrets to Happy Living was published. In short, hygge is all about being cozy and happy about it.

Luckily for Goodwill shoppers, the cozy aesthetic is easy to achieve without breaking the bank! Plus, if you do it like the Danes, you’ll be snug and happy all winter!

Here’s how to achieve maximum hygge:

Get some cozy, oversized sweaters

Over sized sweaters are the easiest way to get cozy! Check the Goodwill racks a size or two above your normal size for extra coziness. And don’t forget a big scarf!

Brew a warm beverage

Tea, coffee, or hot chocolate? It doesn’t matter as long as it makes you warm on the inside. We have plenty of cute mugs and teapots to choose from!

Light some candles

Candles make everyone feel relaxed. Check out Goodwill for candlesticks, mason jars or tea candle holders.

Light a fire in your fireplace, if you have one

A fireplace isn’t necessary for hygge, but it definitely adds to the ambience!

Books at our Beechmont Store

Grab a book and relax

Taking it slow is another key to hygge. So turn off the screens, enjoy the candlelight, a warm drink and dive into a good old fashioned book.

That’s it! It’s not a lot of work to achieve hygge! We bet if you spend a cozy hour in a hygge atmosphere you’ll feel more relaxed and sleep better. And do it in style and on the cheap with Goodwill! Find the closest of our 18 stores to you by clicking here!
